Lamar County will see a new traffic pattern starting April 23, 2025, as the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) begins bridge rehabilitation work on State Route 7. This project includes both southbound and northbound lanes at Ivey Lane, N.S. Railroad, and Pecan Drive. Traffic will be redirected from the southbound lanes to the northbound lanes in a contraflow configuration. During the project, the speed limit will be reduced from 60 mph to 40 mph.

The shift in traffic is necessary to facilitate the bridge rehabilitation work and is expected to last until the summer season. GDOT has advised motorists to anticipate delays, and to exercise caution and reduce speed when traveling through the work zones. It’s important for travelers to stay informed about real-time traffic conditions and work status by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 app.

GDOT emphasizes that dates might change due to weather or other factors. The Georgia Department of Transportation, which oversees state and federal highways, is dedicated to providing a safe and sustainable transportation system for Georgia. Their commitment extends to various transportation sectors, including bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, and bike and pedestrian programs. GDOT aims to enhance Georgia’s competitiveness through its leadership in transportation.
