The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) reported on Sunday that all state routes in District 2, which covers east-central Georgia, are currently passable. While the western side of District 2 has clear and dry roads, some areas in Richmond, Columbia, McDuffie, Wilkes, Lincoln, Jefferson, Burke, and Oglethorpe counties still have wet and icy patches.

According to the department’s statement: “Georgia DOT crews are continuing to treat routes in those areas. Additional crews from southern and western parts of the district will remain in the CSRA to help treat routes overnight. Crews will continue to plow and salt areas that did not dry on Sunday.”

Drivers are urged to be cautious as black ice may form overnight into Monday morning. The department advises: “If the road looks wet, assume it’s icy and proceed accordingly.”

All district maintenance personnel are working 12-hour shifts until conditions improve. “Crews continue to be staffed around the clock,” according to Georgia DOT.
