The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is actively monitoring and treating roads in east-central Georgia following winter weather conditions. As of 8 a.m. Sunday, state routes on the western side of District 2, west of State Route 15, are reported to be passable and drying. However, hazardous and icy conditions persist on the eastern side of the district.

According to Georgia DOT, crews are focusing their efforts on routes east of SR 15. Additional personnel from the western part of the district have been deployed to the Augusta area to assist with treatment operations. The teams are using plows and salt, as well as a calcium brine mixture that acts as a deicer in certain locations.

“Drivers are advised to continue avoiding non-essential travel throughout the day on Sunday. Icy conditions are likely in several locations.”

Crews remain staffed around the clock, with all district maintenance personnel working 12-hour shifts until weather threats subside.
