Motorists in Southeast Georgia are being warned to expect delays and exercise caution due to ongoing road work scheduled from February 21 to 27, 2026. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has issued a weekly advisory, urging drivers to reduce their speed when traveling through work zones.
Drivers are encouraged to check real-time updates on roadwork and traffic conditions before starting their journeys. Information is available by calling 511, visiting the official website at https://511ga.org/, or using the Georgia 511 mobile app.
The GDOT oversees planning, construction, and maintenance of state and federal highways in Georgia. In addition to roads, the department manages bridge projects, waterways, public transit systems, rail infrastructure, general aviation facilities, as well as bike and pedestrian programs. GDOT also assists local governments with maintaining their roads.
According to the department: “Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways. We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs. And we help local governments maintain their roads. Georgia DOT and its nearly 4,000 employees are committed to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability and mobility. The Department’s vision is to boost Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.”
