The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) Outdoor Advertising Unit is shifting from paper-based to online applications and renewals. This transition involves a new online application system and portal for sign permits, changes, transfers, and other related activities. The transition will be completed in the coming months, after which paper applications will no longer be accepted.

Buddy Sanders, Georgia DOT Outdoor Advertising Manager, stated that the online portal would speed up the application process by automating it. “Applicants will receive notification their application has been received securely within minutes via the portal versus the potential timeframe of days previously utilizing the paper submission process,” said Sanders.

The new system allows applicants to view their application’s status in real-time and make payments using major credit cards, debit cards, or e-checks. “The only way to pay in the past was to mail in a check and wait. Paying online is easier for our applicants and permit holders as well,” added Sanders. Payments over $500 will only be accepted online once the transition period ends.

A separate notice will be issued regarding vegetation permits’ current paper applications and renewals for using the online portal with an effective required date for implementation.
