The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is monitoring weather conditions in east-central Georgia as forecasts indicate the possibility of wintry precipitation over the weekend. GDOT is working closely with the National Weather Service to assess any potential impacts on District 2.

According to GDOT, crews are not scheduled to apply brine to roadways on Saturday. The latest forecasts indicate that temperatures are not expected to fall low enough during the event for precipitation to freeze on road surfaces. Additionally, any wintry precipitation expected on Sunday would likely be preceded by rain, which reduces the effectiveness of brine treatments.

“Based on the latest forecast, crews are not scheduled to brine routes on Saturday. Current forecasts suggest the temperature will not drop low enough during the event for precipitation to freeze to the road surface. Additionally, current forecasts suggest any wintry precipitation on Sunday would be preceded by rain. Rain limits the effectiveness of brine treatment.”

GDOT emphasized that plans may change as new weather information becomes available and that they will continue to monitor conditions throughout the event.

“Our plans are based on current weather reports and are subject to change. Georgia DOT will continue to monitor the weather.”

All district maintenance personnel remain on call and ready to salt, plow, or brine roads if needed.
