Georgia DOT has announced the temporary closure of lanes on I-95 for the inspection of the Savannah River Bridges beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15. These closures will take place at the South Carolina state line, with the examination commencing on the northbound bridge and proceeding to the southbound bridge. Each inspection is expected to last about two hours.
To ensure public safety and awareness, message signs and barrels will be used to alert drivers of the changes. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds while traveling through the work zone. These inspections depend on favorable weather conditions.
“For information about travel conditions on Georgia’s interstates and state routes, call 511 before getting on the road,” the announcement stated. The Georgia 511 service offers real-time traffic and travel updates statewide, and motorists can also request CHAMP roadside assistance in southeast Georgia through this service by calling 511.
The Georgia Department of Transportation is responsible for the planning, construction, and maintenance of the state’s highways. “We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs,” and they assist local governments in road maintenance. The department and its nearly 4,000 employees emphasize innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility, aiming to enhance the state’s transportation system.
