The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced that construction and maintenance projects will continue this weekend throughout the metropolitan Atlanta area. The department is providing updated information to help travelers avoid major delays.
GDOT has created a dedicated webpage where the public can view all scheduled weekend lane closures in Metro Atlanta. The lane closure information can be accessed by selecting options within a search filter, which sorts by traffic impact level, county, interstate, or state route. The schedule is posted weekly and is available from 4:00 p.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. Monday.
“To assist in avoiding major delays in your travels, GDOT created a webpage dedicated to weekend lane closures throughout Metro Atlanta,” the department said. “Lane closure information can be accessed by selecting the desired option within the search filter and clicking the submit button (…) The weekend lane closure schedule will be posted on a weekly basis and will be accessible from 4:00 p.m., Thursday until 10 a.m., Monday.”
For additional travel information on Georgia’s interstates and state routes, GDOT recommends calling 511 before traveling. Georgia 511 is a free phone service offering real-time traffic and travel updates statewide, including details about incidents, lane closures, and delays. Callers can also request assistance or report incidents at any time of day. In metro Atlanta, HERO roadside assistance can also be requested through this service.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, “Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways (…) We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs. And we help local governments maintain their roads.”
