Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) crews are preparing for a winter storm expected this weekend by readying equipment and materials at the Maintenance Activities Unit in Forest Park. Media representatives have been invited to observe these preparations on Friday, January 30, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

According to GDOT, nearly two million gallons of brine have been replenished across the state, and approximately 570 snow removal units—including plows, spreaders, and heavy-duty pickups—are available statewide. Crews will be actively preparing these resources to treat and plow roadways as needed.

Natalie Dale from Georgia DOT Media Relations and Joe Schulman, District Communications Officer for District 6, will be available for interviews during the media event. The department has advised that media personnel must be escorted while inside the facility and should wear appropriate footwear while avoiding active operations for safety reasons.

“Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways. We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs. And we help local governments maintain their roads. Georgia DOT and its nearly 4,000 employees are committed to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability and mobility. The Department’s vision is to boost Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation,” according to the agency.

The event will provide an opportunity for media outlets to capture footage of GDOT crews as they prepare for winter weather conditions that may impact travel across the state.
