State routes in east-central Georgia’s District 2 have largely dried following recent weather, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT). While most roads are dry, some areas that did not receive much sunlight remain wet. On Monday, Georgia DOT crews applied salt to these spots to help prevent refreezing.
Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing overnight throughout District 2. The agency warns that black ice may form wherever roads are not completely dry. Drivers are urged to use caution during nighttime hours. “If the road surface looks wet, assume it’s icy and proceed accordingly,” stated the department.
All state routes in the district remain open and passable. Maintenance crews from Georgia DOT will be on-call overnight and ready to respond if any problems occur.
The department expressed appreciation for drivers who have limited travel and allowed crews space to treat roadways. “We thank the public for limiting travel and giving Georgia DOT crews space to treat routes,” said the statement.
