The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced that road construction and maintenance projects will continue across Southeast Georgia from Saturday, August 23 through Friday, August 29. The department advises motorists to expect traffic interruptions and to exercise caution when traveling through work zones.
According to GDOT, all scheduled work is subject to change depending on weather or other factors. Drivers are urged to reduce speed in affected areas and remain alert for workers.
Interstate 95 will see several lane closures and traffic shifts in Camden, Bryan, Chatham, and Glynn counties. Projects include bridge repairs at the St. Marys River Bridge near the Florida state line, ongoing resurfacing between mileposts 27 and 36 in Glynn County through January 2026, and sign improvement concrete work between mileposts 85 and 112 in Bryan and Chatham counties during nighttime hours.
Bridge maintenance is planned for the Ogeechee River area on I-95 northbound and southbound lanes in Chatham County with nightly single lane closures from August 20 to August 27. Additional overnight lane closures are scheduled for the I-95 bridge at SR 25/Hwy 17 in Bryan County.
On Interstate 16 in Chatham County, daily single lane closures will occur under the Chatham Parkway Bridge as crews address corrective items and apply a polymer overlay until August 31.
I-516 eastbound and westbound from Louisville Road to Tremont Road in Chatham County will have continuous nightly lane closures for bridge maintenance until August 31.
Several bridges across Southeast Georgia are undergoing construction or rehabilitation. This includes a full closure of Lewis Frasier Road at Peacock Creek in Liberty County for a bridge replacement project with a detour via US 17 and US 84; rehabilitation of SR 25/US17 at Cypress Mill Creek in Glynn County with nightly lane closures; maintenance on SR46 Little Lotts Creek Bridge in Bulloch County beginning August 25; ongoing work on SR204 at Forest River in Chatham County; and multiple projects along US84/SR38 including Doctors Creek (Long County), Satilla River (Pierce/Ware Counties), Little McMillan Creek (Wayne County), among others.
Resurfacing efforts are also underway on major routes such as SR38/US84 across Liberty, Wayne, Telfair, Clinch, Bulloch counties; SR73/US301 within Bulloch County; SR117 in Telfair County; and others. Lane closures may be daily or nightly depending on location.
Other traffic interruptions include activation of a new signalized intersection at Westside Blvd. on US80 in Pooler (Chatham County) scheduled for Tuesday, August 26. There will also be temporary road closures with signed detours for culvert replacement under East Main Street (SR24) by the City of Statesboro until August 29.
Projects involving widening operations or roundabout construction can be found along Burnsed Blvd., Ogeechee Rd., Lakeview Road, Yacht Road to Harry Driggers Blvd., Harry Driggers Blvd. to SR99 (all Glynn or Chatham counties), Benton Blvd Roundabout (Chatham), the Liberty Bypass Long Co corridor (Liberty & Long Counties), US1 Bypass Project (Toombs), Golden Isles Pkwy at SR99 roundabout construction (Glynn).
