The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of lane closures and traffic changes on the I-285/I-20 East Interchange as part of an ongoing reconstruction project. The scheduled work will take place from Friday, February 6, 2026, through Friday, February 13, 2026, weather permitting.
The project aims to reconstruct the system-to-system ramps at the interchange and add collector-distributor and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange. These upgrades are intended to improve traffic flow and safety in one of metro Atlanta’s busiest corridors.
During this period, daytime lane closures will occur on I-20 eastbound between Columbia Drive and Panola Road, including single right or left lane and shoulder closures from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be similar closures on connecting lanes between the I-285 Interchange and Wesley Chapel Road.
Daytime operations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. include alternating double lane closures with traffic pacing on the westbound Wesley Chapel exit ramp. Flagging operations are scheduled for Hillandale Drive at DeKalb Medical Parkway, Miller Road over I-20, and Chupp Way at Fairington Road during these same hours.
Overnight work is planned from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., with single to double lane and shoulder closures affecting various segments of both I-20 eastbound and westbound between Columbia Drive, Wesley Chapel Road, Panola Road, and Fairington Road Overpass. Additional overnight restrictions include single-lane closures on ramps such as the Wesley Chapel off-ramp.
I-285 northbound and southbound will also see overnight single to double lane closures between Columbia Drive, Glenwood Road, and the interchange area from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., with some operations extending until 6 p.m.
Flagging operations at Miller Road over I-20, Hillandale Drive at DeKalb Medical Parkway, and Chupp Way at Fairington Road will be active each day from February 6 through February 13 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
All scheduled activities are subject to change depending on weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
