The Georgia Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on a proposed project to widen Interstate 95 in Bryan, Chatham, and Effingham Counties.

The department announced that the virtual Public Information Open House is now available for residents to review project details and provide feedback. The proposal involves adding a single lane in each direction along 22 miles of I-95, from State Route 144/Ford Avenue (Exit 90) to the Savannah River at the Georgia/South Carolina state line.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, “The 22 miles of I-95 proposed widening by a single lane in each direction from SR 144/Ford Avenue (Exit 90) to the Savannah River at the Georgia/South Carolina State line will improve travel safety and efficiency for everyone. This project aims to support regional growth and meet current and future transportation needs along the I-95 corridor, driven by planned industrial expansion, population increase, and the growth of the Port of Savannah.”

Residents can learn more about the project and submit comments through GDOT’s Public Outreach and Community Engagement online platform. Comments for Project ID 0020169 will be accepted until Friday, March 27, 2026. Written statements may also be submitted to Ms. Amber Phillips, State Environmental Administrator at the Georgia Department of Transportation.

More information is available at the official announcement.
