The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary lane closures for the ongoing I-285/I-20 East Interchange project. Weather permitting, lane closures will be in effect from Friday, March 28, through Friday, April 4, 2025, to facilitate the project’s advancement.
The plan involves reconstructing the ramp systems connecting I-285 and I-20. It also includes adding connecting lanes and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange.
Day closures are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on I-20 eastbound between Wesley Chapel Road (MM 69.5) and Panola Road (MM 71.3), among other locations. Simultaneously, Snapfinger Road under the I-285 overpass and Miller Road between Panola Industrial Boulevard and Chatooga Drive will see flagging operations daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closure types will vary from right- or left-lane and shoulder closures to single and double lane closures.
Overnight closures and traffic pacing operations are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. These will affect sections of I-20 eastbound and westbound, with affected areas extending from Wesley Chapel Road to the I-285 interchange, and on I-285 northbound and southbound in multiple locations. The plan involves temporary lane reductions and pacing operations to manage traffic flows.
“Traffic impacts on the I-285/I-20 Interchange project from Friday, March 28, through Friday, April 4, 2025,” the advisory states. Lane closure details specify alternating left and right single to double-lane closures along with corresponding shoulder closures, which will be maintained to facilitate construction activities and ensure safety.
Additionally, Miller Road Bridge over I-20 will continue to be closed with a detour implemented until approximately September 2025. Georgia DOT advises travelers to remain cautious, plan alternate routes, and follow all posted signage for their safety and minimize congestion during these closures.
