The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is moving its Outdoor Advertising Unit to an online application and payment system. This transition will eliminate paper applications for sign permits, changes, transfers, and other related activities within the next few months.

Buddy Sanders, Georgia DOT Outdoor Advertising Manager, said that the new portal will speed up the application process by automating it. Applicants will receive notifications about their application’s secure receipt within minutes through the portal, compared to days with paper submissions.

The online system allows applicants to track their application’s status in real time and make payments using major credit cards, debit cards, or e-checks. “The only way to pay in the past was to mail in a check and wait. Paying online is easier for our applicants and permit holders as well,” said Sanders. Payments over $500 will be accepted only online after the transition period ends.

A separate notice will be issued regarding vegetation permits with details on using the online portal. More information about Georgia DOT’s Outdoor Advertising Office can be found on their website.

Georgia DOT manages state and federal highways in Georgia and supports local governments with road maintenance. The department focuses on innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility to enhance Georgia’s transportation system.
