State Representative Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) has co-sponsored House Resolution 1007, a measure aimed at recognizing the role of arts-based health initiatives in improving mental health outcomes across Georgia.
“I enjoy working with the arts community and appreciate their interest in mental health issues,” said Rep. Oliver. “We all know how important both participation in the arts and arts-based health initiatives are for the well-being and overall mental health of individuals throughout Georgia.”
If adopted, HR 1007 would formally acknowledge that art-based programs can serve as valuable resources for promoting mental health and well-being. The resolution encourages support for arts interventions and similar initiatives to benefit not only individuals but also healthcare professionals facing mental health challenges.

Jon G. Burns, a Republican who was elected to represent Georgia’s 159th House District in 2005, succeeded Ray Holland in this position.
