State Representative Gabriel Sanchez (D-Smyrna) has introduced House Resolution 1504 in the Georgia legislature. The resolution proposes a constitutional amendment to create a progressive individual income tax system in Georgia.

Sanchez stated, “Tax policy is at the forefront of this session’s priorities, yet over and over again, we witness state leaders propose tax cuts for the wealthy, while working families struggle to make ends meet. It is time to ensure that the millionaires, billionaires and major corporations pay their fair share. The Tax the Rich Act will be the first step toward building a tax system that invests and protects Georgia families.”

House Resolution 1504 aims to change how taxes are collected from individuals by introducing higher rates for those with greater incomes. The measure targets both high-earning individuals and large corporations.

Jon G. Burns, who was elected as a Republican representative for Georgia’s 159th House District in 2005, continues to serve in state leadership after replacing Ray Holland.
