State Representatives Viola Davis, Rhonda Burnough, Sheila Jones, Edna Jackson, Mekyah McQueen, and Terry Cummings have introduced House Resolution 1195 to recognize Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Day. The event will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026, at noon at the Georgia Freight Depot in Atlanta.

According to the representatives, “Georgia is home to over 60 DST chapters—alumnae and undergraduate—serving communities statewide. More than 400 members are slated to attend the two-day event focused on advocacy and legislative engagement. We will attend preparatory sessions with recognized advocacy leaders on Sunday, February 22, 2026, and members will meet with state legislators to discuss current and pending bills on a wide range of issues impacting Georgia’s citizens on Monday, February 23, 2026. The group photo is scheduled for 10:00 am at the Georgia State Capitol South Steps.”

During Delta Day events, leaders and members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will provide feedback on legislation concerning healthcare access, education opportunities, election security, and other topics relevant to voters in Georgia.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded in 1913 by collegiate women at Howard University. It is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to public service and focuses primarily on supporting local communities through academic programs, scholarships, outreach to underserved populations, and civil rights advocacy.
