State Representative Lehman Franklin (R-Statesboro), along with Statesboro Mayor Jonathan McCollar and Georgia Power, will hold a Discount and Resource Day for eligible customers on Saturday, December 6, 2025. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Statesboro City Council Chambers.

The initiative aims to provide information and assistance to residents who may qualify for discounts on their monthly energy bills. According to Rep. Franklin, “I’m very excited about this opportunity for Georgia Power customers. With the holidays just around the corner, our goal is to help educate participants and ensure those who qualify can access meaningful savings before the end of the season. For eligible households, the discount is applied instantly, providing the real possibility of relief on energy bills before the end of the year. I am grateful to Mayor Jonathan McCollar and Georgia Power for their ongoing commitment to helping Georgia families secure the best possible rates on their energy bills during this important time of year.”

Mayor McCollar also expressed support for the event: “I appreciate Representative Franklin and Georgia Power for bringing these critical resources directly to our community. Many of our residents, especially seniors and families on fixed incomes, are feeling the impact of rising costs. We’re pleased to open our doors at City Hall to host this important event, which makes it easier for families to access meaningful savings on their monthly energy bills.”

During Discount and Resource Day, attendees can learn about programs that could reduce their monthly Georgia Power bill by $33.50 if they meet certain eligibility requirements. Those eligible include individuals receiving Social Security Disability Insurance or Supplemental Security Income; participants in the House Choice Voucher Program; or those aged 65 or older with an income at or below 200 percent of federal income guidelines.

Rep. Franklin encourages interested individuals to attend in person and notes that more details about registration are available online.

Jon G. Burns has served as a Republican representative in Georgia’s State House since 2005 after succeeding Ray Holland as representative for District 159.
