The State Bar of Georgia announced on May 11 the passing of longtime Lawrenceville attorney Jeffrey R. Sliz at the age of 76.

Sliz was a member of the Georgia Bar since 1975 and practiced law in downtown Lawrenceville for over five decades, focusing on criminal defense. He was known for his dedication to clients, involvement in his community and church, as well as his love for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and Southern rock music. He also owned Peach State Speedway for many years.

“Jeffrey Sliz will be missed and fondly remembered by his fellow members of Georgia’s legal community. We appreciate his dedication and the many contributions he made through his service to the public and the justice system,” Christopher P. Twyman, President of the State Bar of Georgia, said in a statement.

The Georgia Bar Association supports mental health, mentorship, inclusion programs, recognizes excellence with annual awards for local bar associations, funds its activities mainly through membership fees and voluntary contributions, provides conference facilities at its Atlanta Bar Center with free parking for law-related gatherings, includes attorneys practicing both within Georgia and elsewhere, promotes duty among members, enhances justice administration and advances legal knowledge according to the official website.

Sliz’s career left an impact on colleagues across Georgia’s legal profession. The association said it values members like Sliz who contribute significantly to their communities.
