Members of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) have announced plans for their annual Heritage Weekend, which will take place from Friday, February 27, through Sunday, March 1, 2026. The event is focused on remembrance, resistance, and the Black community in Georgia.
State Representative Park Cannon (D-Atlanta) said, “Our heritage is not just something we commemorate—it is something we carry forward in our actions.” State Representative Eric Bell (D-Jonesboro) added, “Heritage Weekend is an opportunity to gather in truth, to celebrate our culture unapologetically and to recommit ourselves to the work of justice, equity and collective care.”
The weekend will begin with a Heritage Weekend Gala on Friday evening at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. The gala will honor leaders and organizers from across the state. An after-dark event will follow.
On Saturday at Morehouse College in Atlanta, volunteers and community members will participate in a town hall. Activities include distributing coats to those in need, assembling hygiene kits, and neighborhood clean-up efforts.
Sunday’s events start with a worship service led by Pastor and United States Senator Raphael Warnock at Ebenezer Baptist Church. The weekend concludes with a coalition brunch at the Race Amity Center.
The GLBC stated its ongoing commitment to advancing policies that focus on equity and community protection throughout Georgia.
Jon G. Burns was elected as a Republican representative for Georgia’s 159th House District in 2005, succeeding Ray Holland.
