State Representative Soo Hong joined Governor Brian Kemp in Atlanta for the signing of House Bill 111, which is designed to offer tax relief to workers in Georgia this year. The bill was signed into law on Monday.
Rep. Soo Hong expressed her gratitude towards Governor Kemp for enacting the legislation. “I’m grateful to Governor Kemp for signing HB 111 into law and proud of the work the Georgia General Assembly has done to deliver real, lasting tax relief for Georgians,” she stated. Rep. Hong emphasized the commitment of the state legislators to alleviate the financial burden on families and small businesses. She also acknowledged the support from her colleagues, saying, “I especially want to thank my colleagues in the House for their support and partnership in advancing this much-needed legislation to the governor’s desk. At the end of the day, this money belongs back in the pockets of Georgians—not sitting in a government account.”
House Bill 111, effective January 1, 2025, reduces the income tax rate from 5.75 percent to 5.19 percent. This reduction equates to 56 basis points and will result in $880 million being returned to families in Georgia next year. The bill is seen as an extension of House Bill 1437, passed in 2022, which made history as Georgia’s largest state income tax cut.
