Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper has announced new appointments to the state’s Agricultural Commodity Commissions. These commissions are responsible for collecting assessments from producers, which are then used to support growers through research, education, and marketing efforts.

“Georgia’s agricultural commodity commissions play a critical role supporting our state’s #1 industry through research, education, and promotion of their respective commodities,” said Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper. “I’m grateful to the Georgia farmers and producers who have agreed to serve on their respective commission.”

The Ex-officio Committee is responsible for appointing members to these boards. The committee consists of Commissioner Harper, Georgia Farm Bureau President Tom McCall, Russ Moon—an appointee from the Georgia Senate Committee on Agriculture and Consumer Affairs—and Al Pearson—an appointee from the Georgia House Committee on Agriculture and Consumer Affairs.

For the Beef Commodity Commission, Allen Wiggins of Turner County and Chuck Joiner of Carroll County were reappointed, while Cannon Mosely of Early County was appointed for his first term. The Cotton Commodity Commission saw Matt Coley of Dooly County and Steven Meeks of Wayne County reappointed. Cassie Taylor of Telfair County and Stephanie Harden Branch of Rabun County were appointed to the Equine Commodity Commission. Brian Ogletree of Lamar County and Jesse Patrick of Morgan County were reappointed to the Soybean Commodity Commission. Chance Callaway of Evans County was reappointed to the Tobacco Commodity Commission.

These appointments are for three-year terms, with the possibility for reappointment.
