Across Middle Georgia, residents are experiencing the impact of rising living costs. In response, the General Assembly has enacted measures aimed at providing financial relief to its citizens. Senator Larry Walker III (R–Perry) announced the passage of House Bills 111 and 112, designed to ease the economic burden on households.
House Bill 111 reduces Georgia’s personal income tax rate from 5.39% to 5.19%, with plans for further reduction to 4.99% in the future. “While that may sound like a small number, it adds up in a big way for working families,” said Sen. Walker.
In addition, House Bill 112 provides a one-time refund for taxpayers who filed their returns on time and have no outstanding state debt. The refunds amount to $250 for single filers, $375 for heads of households, and $500 for joint filers.
Senator Walker emphasized that these measures are part of responsible budgeting practices while still funding essential services such as school safety, teacher pay raises, mental health services, and rural healthcare infrastructure.
“Georgia’s net tax collections for May were up more than nine percent from last year,” noted Sen. Walker, attributing this growth to strong individual and corporate income tax returns.
Walker highlighted the importance of these policies for his constituents in the 20th District: “Whether you’re running a small business in Eastman, tending a family farm in Cochran or living on a fixed income in Hawkinsville, this tax relief matters.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring fiscal discipline and protecting taxpayer money: “I’ve always believed that Georgians know how to spend their money better than the government does.”
