The Georgia Republican Party criticized Sen. Jon Ossoff on May 5 for providing no explanation or accountability as the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) faces a federal indictment.

In a post on X, the party raised concerns over Ossoff’s silence regarding the federal indictment of the Southern Poverty Law Center for fraud and money laundering charges, referencing alleged reports linking over $700,000 from the SPLC network to Ossoff’s 2020 campaign contributions.

The Department of Justice indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center on 11 counts, including wire fraud, bank fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Prosecutors alleged the group used donor funds totaling more than $3 million to pay informants inside extremist organizations it claimed to oppose, such as the Ku Klux Klan, the Aryan Nation and other neo-Nazi groups. The charges cover activities spanning 2014 to 2023 and have drawn national attention to the organization’s financial practices, as reported by the Associated Press.

The Georgia Republican Party is led by Chairman Josh McKoon and focuses on grassroots mobilization, policy advocacy, and supporting candidates who champion values of limited government and individual liberty in Georgia.
