State Representative Floyd Griffin of Milledgeville has acknowledged the adoption of Senate Resolution 8 by the House. This legislation is set to dedicate various roads in Georgia. One notable inclusion is State Route 49, spanning from the Milledgeville Bypass SR 29/US 441 to the Macon Bibb County line in Baldwin County, which will be named as the Latasha R. Butts Memorial Highway.
Representative Griffin remarked, “I am grateful to the House for adopting SR 8, which would honor the incredible contributions of Georgians from across our state – notably, Ms. Latasha R. Butts, a native of Milledgeville.” He continued to praise Ms. Butts’ achievements both as a player and a coach. “Ms. Butts was a standout basketball player at the University of Tennessee, where she contributed to four Southeastern Conference championships before being drafted by the Minnesota Lynx,” said Griffin. He noted her contributions to the team and her community, saying, “It is both fitting and proper that we memorialize the legacy of Ms. Butts with a highway in her name, so that we may never forget the indelible mark she made on her community, teams and players.”
In 2025, Representative Griffin had proposed House Resolution 71, which sought to honor Ms. Butts through a road dedication. The resolution for Ms. Butts was incorporated into the broader Senate road dedication package under Senate Resolution 8.
Further information regarding a ceremonial dedication for Latasha R. Butts will be announced in due course.
