The Georgia Senate will hold its first hearing on the impact of social media and artificial intelligence on children, as well as platform privacy protection. The hearing is scheduled for August 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the State Capitol in Atlanta. The event is open to the public and will be live-streamed on the Senate website.
The committee leading this initiative was created through Senate Resolution 431. It aims to evaluate how social media usage and artificial intelligence affect children. The bipartisan group will work with parents, policy experts, state agencies, and private organizations to explore ways to improve online privacy protections for safer social media access.
Senator Sally Harrell (D–Atlanta) and Senator Shawn Still (R–Johns Creek) are co-chairing the committee. “The Senate Impact of Social Media and Artificial Intelligence on Children and Platform Privacy Protection Study Committee, created through Senate Resolution 431, will evaluate social media usage and artificial intelligence’s impact on children. The bipartisan study committee will also partner with parents, policy experts and representatives from state agencies and private organizations to investigate ways to determine how online privacy protections may be improved and strengthened to ensure safer social media access,” according to the press release.
