Georgia’s Attorney General Chris Carr described a recent federal court decision as a “great” victory for common sense. The ruling vacated President Biden’s Title IX rewrite nationwide, following Tennessee’s challenge. Carr expressed his support in a January 9 post on X.
“Great win for common sense,” said Carr. “Proud to have joined in support of TN’s challenge to protect women’s sports.”
According to Carr, he has submitted an amicus brief backing a lawsuit led by Tennessee against the Biden-Harris administration’s updated Title IX rule. This rule is being contested for allegedly undermining women’s sports and mandating that males and females use the same bathrooms, as said in a press release by Carr.
“Whether it’s the Biden-Harris administration or the NCAA, we have continued to push back against all those intent on destroying women’s sports,” said Carr. “This latest action will further bolster our efforts here in Georgia and across the country as we work to block this absurd rule once and for all. We’re committed to protecting female athletes and will never stop fighting for women’s rights to fair competition.”
Fox News reported that a federal judge in Kentucky blocked the Biden administration’s attempt to redefine sex under Title IX to include “gender identity,” issuing a nationwide ruling. The decision was made by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky in the case of Cardona v. Tennessee. This ruling followed lawsuits from over two dozen attorneys general who argued that the new rule would conflict with state laws preventing transgender students from participating in women’s sports.
Carr was appointed as Georgia’s attorney general by then-Governor Nathan Deal in 2016 and was re-elected in November 2022. Since taking office, he has focused on addressing issues such as human trafficking, gang activity, and opioid misuse. This includes establishing the state’s first Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit and Gang Prosecution Unit, according to Georgia.gov.
