Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced the indictment of five individuals in connection with the fatal shooting of Kameron Mason, a 28-year-old property manager, at the MacArthur Park Apartments in Augusta. The incident occurred on May 22, 2025, when Mason confronted the defendants for attempting to access the apartment pool after hours. According to Carr’s press release, two of the defendants allegedly fired multiple rounds during the confrontation, resulting in Mason’s death.

“Kameron Mason was an innocent individual who was simply doing his job, and he should never have lost his life that day,” said General Chris Carr. “Gang violence of any kind will not be tolerated in Richmond County or anywhere in our state, and we intend to prosecute those responsible to the fullest extent of the law. We’re grateful to our partners at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, and we will continue to work with them to ensure justice for Kameron and his family.”

The indictment identifies the defendants as members of Extort Anybody (EA), a local gang with affiliations to Loyalty Over Everything (LOE). Carr’s Gang Prosecution Unit, which collaborates with local law enforcement agencies, had previously indicted 30 suspected gang members on 333 charges related to LOE and a separate 2022 shooting incident involving an eight-year-old victim. That investigation also led to the seizure of 15 pounds of fentanyl. The current case was investigated by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from Carr’s Gang Prosecution Unit.

Richmond County Sheriff Eugene Brantley emphasized the ongoing challenge posed by gangs in Georgia. “Gangs continue to be a serious problem in our community and across Georgia, driving much of the violent crime that impacts our citizens,” Brantley said. He added that collaborative efforts are crucial in sending a clear message against gang violence.

Carr has been serving as Georgia’s attorney general since his appointment by then-Governor Nathan Deal in 2016 and was re-elected in November 2022. His tenure has focused on tackling issues such as human trafficking, gang activity, and opioid misuse. Among his initiatives are the establishment of Georgia’s first Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit and Gang Prosecution Unit. Prior to his role as attorney general, Carr served as Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development under Governor Deal from November 2013 to November 2016.
