Georgia’s Attorney General, Chris Carr, has accused the Biden administration of jeopardizing women’s sports by eroding the fundamental protections of Title IX and promoting the participation of biological males in female competitions. He affirmed that measures have been implemented to secure women’s rights to fair competition.
“The Biden administration is destroying women’s sports,” said General Chris Carr, according to X. “They’re gutting commonsense Title IX protections & demanding that biological males be allowed to compete against females. Today, we’ve taken action to defend women’s rights to fair competition.”
In a move against the Biden administration’s revised Title IX rule, Attorney General Carr has initiated a lawsuit. The contention is that this revision undermines the essence of women’s sports and necessitates the communal use of bathrooms by both sexes. Title IX, which bans sex discrimination in federally funded education programs, has been reinterpreted by the Biden administration to encompass “gender identity” and “sexual orientation.” As per the new rule dictated by the Office of the Attorney General, schools are obligated to respect students’ “preferred pronouns,” failing which they risk losing federal funding.
Joining forces with Attorney General Carr in this lawsuit are attorneys general from Alabama, Florida, and South Carolina. Several organizations including the Independent Women’s Law Center, Independent Women’s Network, Parents Defending Education, and Speech First Inc., are also part of this legal action as stated in a press release by the Office of the Attorney General.
Carr was appointed Georgia’s attorney general by then-Governor Nathan Deal in 2016 and was re-elected in November 2022. During his tenure, he has prioritized issues such as human trafficking, gang activity, and opioid misuse. His initiatives include establishing Georgia’s first Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit and Gang Prosecution Unit. Prior to this role, Carr served as commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development. Under his leadership, Georgia was recognized as a top state for business owing to significant investment and job creation according to information from the Office of the Attorney General.
