Today, Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J. Harper has urged pet owners and livestock producers in Georgia to take precautions as the state braces for a severe heat wave. With heat indices expected to soar into triple digits through the weekend and early next week, the risk of heat stress for animals is notably high.
“With more extremely hot weather approaching our state, it is going to be critical to ensure our pets and livestock have plenty of shade and water over the next few days,” said Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J. Harper. “Extreme heat can be deadly for animals, and I strongly encourage all Georgians take steps to protect their pets and livestock this weekend and into next week.”
The Georgia Department of Agriculture advises providing ample shade, fresh water, and minimizing outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
