Crews in Gilmer County will begin work to remove railroad tracks and resurface the roadway on State Route 282 starting Wednesday, September 3, at 9 a.m., weather permitting. The project is expected to take about two days to complete and will require closing the road near Progress Road. A detour will be set up, directing motorists to use Progress Road and Maddox Road to return to SR 282.
Motorists are advised that delays are likely during the closure. Drivers should exercise caution and reduce speed while traveling through work zones. Real-time updates on traffic conditions and work status are available by calling 511, visiting https://511ga.org/, or using the Georgia 511 app.
“Our maintenance team members who repair roads and bridges and our project teams who oversee construction projects are continuing their essential work, while following sanitary work practices prescribed by health agencies to protect themselves and the public from the coronavirus, as are most state DOTs in the U.S.”
