GOP Youth Advisory Council Co-Chair CJ Pearson said that Republican leaders in Indiana did not adequately counter the Democrats’ assertive redistricting strategy in Virginia.
“Democrats in Virginia are about to unapologetically turn a state that voted by Kamala Harris by six points into a 10D-1R congressional map,” said Coreco Jaquan Pearson. “We can’t even half of the Republican Senate supermajority in Indiana to vote in favor of a 9R-0D map in a state that voted for President Trump by 20. One side wants to fight. The other wants to fold.”
Pearson’s comments were made amid growing partisan redistricting debates across the United States as the 2026 midterm elections approach. In Virginia, Democrats have put forward a new congressional map anticipated to significantly benefit their party, leading Republican figures to urge for a more robust opposition.
According to the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, the proposed map in Virginia establishes ten Democratic-leaning districts and one Republican-leaning district, potentially ensuring Democratic control for the next decade. Analysts suggest this reflects broader national redistricting patterns.
Indiana, which supported Donald Trump by nearly 20 points in 2020, currently maintains a 7R-2D congressional division. The reluctance of GOP lawmakers to pursue a more partisan map has caused discontent among grassroots conservatives who are advocating for a cohesive strategy.
