CJ Pearson, Co-Chair of the GOP Youth Advisory Council, has called for financial institutions to be held accountable for denying services based on political views. He commended President Trump’s response to these issues in a statement made on X.

“Any institution that engaged in the debanking of conservatives due to their political beliefs should be held accountable,” said Pearson. “If it can happen to Eric Trump or Donald Trump Jr., it can happen to ANYONE. God bless Donald J. Trump for standing up for these hardworking Americans.”

Recent controversies have emerged over allegations that financial institutions are “debanking” conservatives by closing accounts or denying services based on political views, according to The Wall Street Journal. These allegations have prompted Congressional investigations and proposed regulations. Lawmakers and advocacy groups are debating whether account closures reflect targeted discrimination or regular business practices.

According to a 2023 House Judiciary Committee report, more than 200 cases of alleged account closures or service denials for political reasons have been documented in the U.S. since 2020. This has fueled scrutiny over whether major banks are disproportionately targeting conservative individuals and organizations.

A survey conducted by the Cato Institute found that 14% of Americans say they or someone they know has faced banking issues due to political beliefs. However, banks claim adherence to non-discrimination policies, and actual verified incidents are rare, making broad partisan targeting difficult to substantiate.

Pearson is a conservative activist and commentator who advocates for free speech and financial fairness, as described by Ballotpedia. He has held youth leadership roles and led campaigns highlighting alleged bias by corporations and banks against conservatives.
