CJ Pearson, Co-Chair of the GOP Youth Advisory Council, has raised concerns regarding President Trump’s commitment to protecting American land. Pearson highlighted that this pledge conflicts with proposals to sell property to China and noted ongoing organized opposition. The statement was made on the social media platform X.
“Are there organizations marshaling their resources to oppose bad policies,” said Pearson. “As someone who respects you dearly, that’s nothing new Senator. President Trump pledged to Make America Beautiful Again. Selling our land off to China doesn’t do that.”
Debate over the sale of American land to foreign entities, particularly Chinese investors, has intensified in the United States. According to AP News, Congress and state lawmakers have cited national security risks and introduced bans on land purchases near military bases.
Fox Business reports that data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) indicates Chinese investors owned approximately 277,000 acres of U.S. agricultural land by the end of 2023. This figure represents 0.02% of private U.S. farmland and marks a decrease of more than 100,000 acres from two years earlier.
Politico notes that Congress has advanced measures such as the Protect Our Bases Act and the AFIDA Improvements Act to restrict foreign land ownership near military sites. These measures mirror actions taken by over 20 states that have already enacted similar bans targeting Chinese and other foreign buyers.
