Effingham County officials announced on May 22 that a temporary traffic shift will be installed on Goshen Road beginning June 1 as part of the ongoing Goshen Roundabout project.

The planned traffic switch is intended to move vehicles into their final configuration along the existing Goshen Road corridor through the roundabout area. This change will allow construction crews to complete remaining work and finishing activities within the project limits.

According to county officials, crews will work to minimize impacts on motorists and maintain safe traffic operations throughout the work zone. Drivers are urged to use caution, follow posted signage, and expect possible delays while traveling through the area.

“Thank you for your patience as improvements continue!” said county representatives in their announcement.

Effingham County has seen changes in other areas as well. Enrollment at Effingham County schools increased by 3.6% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, according to the Georgia Department of Education. The schools enrolled a total of 13,373 students during that period. White students made up 65% of the student body, Black students represented 17%, Hispanic students accounted for 11%, and multiracial students comprised about 6%, also according to the Georgia Department of Education.

The completion of roadwork projects like this one is expected to support continued growth and safety for residents as Effingham County’s population increases.
