Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp emphasized the importance of a strong talent pipeline for the state’s business success, highlighting a new agreement between the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and the University System of Georgia (USG). This agreement facilitates nursing students’ transition from an associate degree to a bachelor’s program without losing credit.

“Georgia’s success as the No. 1 state for business depends on a strong pipeline of talent, especially in critical fields like healthcare,” said Brian P. Kemp, according to Lieutenant Governor of Georgia. “This agreement between TCSG and USG is a perfect example of how our state is working together to expand opportunities for students, strengthen our workforce, and ensure that every Georgian has the opportunity to succeed.”

According to Kemp, this 2+2 model, supported by the Top State for Talent Act, aims to align education with workforce needs and strengthen Georgia’s healthcare talent pipeline. The initiative is designed to provide a seamless path for graduates from TCSG’s nursing programs into Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs at participating USG institutions. It supports the state’s broader workforce strategy by expanding access to in-demand healthcare careers and increasing educational attainment.

USG Chancellor Sonny Perdue said that “Georgia’s growing population means a greater demand for healthcare,” adding that this partnership helps meet that demand by preparing more nurses, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Perdue further explained that aligning programs makes it easier for students to enhance their skills, calling it “a smart investment that drives student success, expands access to care, and builds a more prosperous Georgia.”

Governor Kemp has served as Georgia’s 83rd governor since 2019. A native of Athens, he began his career as a small business owner over 35 years ago. During his tenure, Georgia experienced significant economic growth with record-breaking job creation and investments. As the first state to reopen its economy during the COVID-19 pandemic, Georgia maintained low unemployment rates and continued to be recognized as the top state for business. Kemp was re-elected in 2022 and has focused on addressing inflation, public safety, education, and tax cuts.
