Governor Brian P. Kemp of Georgia has enacted new legislation aimed at reducing bureaucratic processes and enhancing state security against foreign interference. The signing took place in Atlanta, with First Lady Marty Kemp, constitutional officers, and members of the Georgia General Assembly present.
SB 96, a key piece of legislation backed by Governor Kemp and sponsored by Senator Drew Echols, was introduced in the House by Representative Matthew Gambill. This bill aims to reduce administrative burdens on state agencies by eliminating inactive or redundant boards.
Governor Kemp stated, “Every day we serve the people of Georgia, it’s important for us to remember that we work for them.” He emphasized the government’s role in streamlining experiences for citizens and facilitating access to opportunities.
Another significant bill signed into law is HB 113. Sponsored by Representative Lauren McDonald and carried in the Senate by Senator Bo Hatchett, this legislation mandates the Georgia Technology Authority to maintain an updated list of companies associated with countries deemed “foreign adversaries” by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce. This list will guide state purchasing decisions to enhance security.
Additional legislative measures were also signed:
– HB 148 introduces two new pathways for obtaining a CPA license while retaining existing requirements.
– HB 322 allows licensed dental professionals from other regions to teach in accredited institutions within Georgia.
– HB 579 simplifies licensure processes under the Professional Licensing Board Division Director’s authority.
– HB 630 clarifies licensing requirements for used motor vehicle dealers while maintaining industry protections.
– HB 635 streamlines contractor licensing pathways.
– SB 125 separates licensure paths for engineers and surveyors and authorizes a third-party database for monitoring compliance with continuing education requirements.
