Hall County Government announced on May 8 that it will soon release the first draft of revisions to its Unified Development Code (UDC) for public review, following a temporary suspension of certain high-density residential zonings.
Interim County Administrator John Gentry said, “The Board of Commissioners implemented the temporary suspension in August 2025 to allow time to reevaluate the Unified Development Code, particularly residential zoning districts and standards. Our staff has worked diligently on these updates, and now it’s time for the public to review and provide their input.”
The county is also planning updates to its Comprehensive Plan in the coming months. This plan guides long-term growth and development in unincorporated areas of Hall County. A public hearing will be held at the Board of Commissioners Voting Meeting on May 14 at 6 p.m. at the Hall County Government Center to introduce this process. Additional in-person outreach meetings are scheduled for early June at various community centers across Hall County.
Gentry said, “Both the UDC, which provides the framework for development, and the Comprehensive Plan, which provides the vision for future development, should represent the needs and goals of our diverse community. It’s important we get as much community feedback as possible throughout both of these processes in order for us to best guide the future growth of Hall County.”
Enrollment at Hall County schools dropped by 1.9% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year; during that period there were a total of 33,586 students enrolled according to the Georgia Department of Education. Hispanic students made up 51.1% of enrollment while white students represented 36.5%, black students accounted for 7.9%, and multiracial students comprised 3.2% during that school year according to the Georgia Department of Education.
More information about providing public input will be released soon.
