The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on May 13 that a road closure and traffic pacing will take place in Henry County as part of a bridge rehabilitation project at Mt. Olive Road.

The upcoming closure is scheduled to support roadway relocation and bridge construction, which officials say is necessary for ongoing infrastructure improvements. The work aims to ensure the safety and reliability of the transportation network in the area.

Traffic pacing is set to begin on May 3, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., affecting both northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 75 at mile marker 217 due to utility work involving an overhead line. Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce speed while traveling through these work zones. Real-time updates are available by calling 511, visiting the Georgia Department of Transportation’s website at 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 app.

According to the official website, the Georgia Department of Transportation delivers transportation solutions that support economic development and benefit residents across the state. The department employs about 4,000 staff members with an operating budget over $4.5 billion and focuses on developing and maintaining Georgia’s roadways while supporting rail, transit, aviation, bike, pedestrian programs, waterways projects, and works closely with local governments as well as federal agencies.

The department operates under the State Transportation Board and serves all regions through its transportation network across Georgia according to its official website.
