The Home Depot Foundation announced on May 26 that it served as the $1 million Diamond Sponsor for the 2026 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project, which began its 40th build this month in Atlanta. The event marked the project’s return to Atlanta for the first time since 1988 and involved a large-scale volunteer effort to construct new homes in the Sylvan Hills neighborhood.

From May 4-8, approximately 750 volunteers—including Team Depot, The Home Depot’s associate volunteer force—worked with future homeowners to build homes in Langston Park. This development is part of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity’s new master-planned community featuring modern, sustainable townhome-style residences aimed at fostering a connected environment.

During this year’s project, volunteers helped construct 24 new single-family homes, duplexes, and townhomes designed to provide affordable housing opportunities for local families. Heather Prill, director of Team Depot and strategic partnerships for The Home Depot Foundation, said, “Two of the values The Home Depot was founded on are giving back and doing the right thing, so engaging our associates in volunteer opportunities like the Carter Work Project is really incredible. And then being in our backyard of Atlanta, helping our neighbors access more affordable and safe housing, is something we’re excited to do.”

The Home Depot Foundation has partnered with Atlanta Habitat since 2005 and has donated more than $10 million to support local housing initiatives. Its efforts include home buyer education programs and repairs on hundreds of veteran homes. Nationally, through programs such as Repair Corps—founded with Habitat for Humanity International—the foundation has supported critical repairs for over 2,300 U.S. military veterans’ families.

According to information provided by The Home Depot Corporate Communications, this year’s Carter Work Project included daily participation from about 150 Team Depot members out of a total of 750 volunteers. The foundation stated that it remains committed to supporting affordable homeownership pathways alongside Habitat for Humanity.
