Georgia’s 1st District congressional candidate Kandiss Taylor has expressed concerns about the impact of rising home prices, high interest rates, and increasing living costs on working families’ futures.
“The American Dream is being stolen,” said Kandiss S Taylor, Congress Candidate. “Young married couples in their 20s who are working hard, doing everything ‘right’ can’t even buy a starter home anymore. Washington politicians are out of touch. I’m not. It’s time we put the First District FIRST and take care of our people again.”
Taylor’s comments come amid a broader national discussion on housing affordability and cost-of-living pressures. The National Association of Realtors reports that first-time homebuyers are facing the most challenging market in four decades, with many being priced out entirely.
According to Freddie Mac, the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate was near 7.4% in late 2025, significantly increasing monthly payments for new buyers. Combined with limited housing supply, affordability has reached record lows across the United States.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a 23% increase in grocery prices and a 19% rise in average rent costs between 2020 and 2025, which has strained middle-income families even in traditionally affordable regions like Georgia.
Kandiss Taylor is an educator from Georgia, a conservative activist, and a Republican candidate for Georgia’s 1st Congressional District. Known for her populist messaging, she advocates for affordable living, family-centered policy, and prioritizing local communities.
Georgia’s 1st Congressional District encompasses the southeastern portion of the state, including Savannah and Brunswick. The district has been a stronghold for conservative politics, emphasizing local economic development and family values.
