State Representative Jordan Ridley (R-Woodstock) has commended the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee for advancing House Bill 967, a measure he sponsored to provide funding for law enforcement agencies to install bullet-resistant features in certain vehicles.
“I am grateful for the support from my colleagues on the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee for voting to pass this bill out of committee,” said Rep. Ridley. “This bill reaffirms our commitment to supporting law enforcement and would ensure that they are equipped with the tools necessary to keep them safe in the line of duty. I am hopeful that this bill will be placed on the Rules Calendar and sent to the House floor for a vote.”
If enacted, HB 967 would authorize the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council to create a grant program aimed at helping law enforcement agencies equip vehicles used by peace officers with bullet-resistant windshields, side windows, rear windows, and door panels. The council would also set criteria for applicants and guidelines for how grants should be used.
The legislation is now pending review by the House Rules Committee before it can proceed to a full vote in the House.
Burns, a Republican, was elected to represent Georgia’s 159th House District in 2005, succeeding Ray Holland.
