Jon Burns, the Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives, said that targeted violence against the Jewish community must be condemned and pledged continued support for Israel. This statement was made on X.

“I’m devastated by the horrific reports out of Colorado,” said Burns, House Speaker. “The Jewish community in our nation has faced a targeted and premeditated act of violence. The House will always stand united against hate of any kind. Our commitment to Israel and its people will never waver.”

According to The Guardian, on June 1, 2025, an attacker used a makeshift flamethrower and Molotov cocktails against a pro-Israel rally in Boulder, Colorado, injuring at least 12 people. The suspect, who shouted “Free Palestine,” was charged with federal hate crimes. This incident prompted condemnation from Colorado officials and national Jewish organizations. The attack led to nationwide vigils and renewed demands for increased security at Jewish events.

As reported by the Anti-Defamation League, the United States experienced a record of over 9,000 antisemitic incidents in 2024, marking a 140% increase over 2023. These incidents included harassment, vandalism, and assaults, with states like Georgia and Colorado seeing notable increases. FBI data confirms that over 22% of hate crimes nationally are religion-based.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Georgia lawmakers passed legislation in 2024 that defined antisemitism within hate crime statutes. Public polling indicates that over 70% of Georgia voters support increased protections for Jewish residents and support for Israel. These measures reflect growing legislative and public commitment amid rising antisemitic threats.
