In June 2025, the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects are progressing with significant upgrades aimed at enhancing safety and efficiency along the corridor. A notable development is the reconstruction of access ramps from I-16 eastbound to both I-516 eastbound and westbound, designed to improve traffic flow and safety.
The widening of the I-16 eastbound bridge over I-516 is currently underway. This modification will support new interchange configurations, allowing for safer transitions between I-16 and I-516 in both directions. Motorists on I-16 eastbound will now experience a new traffic configuration, using a common exit leading to dedicated lanes that provide access to Exits 164A and 164B.
Construction crews are also working on replacing bridges near the I-16/I-516 Interchange, shifting northbound traffic on I-95 into its final configuration. Lighting installations throughout the interchange are being progressively activated, with full activation expected by project completion.
The substantial completion date for these projects is anticipated in Q3 2025, with final acceptance by Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) planned for late Q4 2025. The department will open newly constructed sections as they become available.
Ongoing construction includes work on the new I-16 westbound bridge over CSX railroad tracks and Tremont Road. Recent activities have involved installing bridge overhangs, concrete slope paving under bridges, paving operations, and deck rebar installation.
Drivers are reminded to exercise caution while traveling through construction zones to ensure safety for all road users and workers. The project team offers presentations to community groups upon request via their website.
