Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation will temporarily close several lanes on I-285 and I-20 as part of ongoing work at the I-285/I-20 West Interchange. The project aims to reconstruct and widen interstate ramps, as well as add new collector-distributor, connecting, and auxiliary lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north of the interchange.

According to the Georgia DOT, closures will occur in multiple locations between August 8 and August 18, 2025. Specific details include right-lane and shoulder closures on I-285 northbound from Cascade Road to Bolton Road each night from August 11 through August 15, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. On I-285 southbound, pacing operations affecting all lanes will take place from SR 280/South Cobb Drive to the I-20 interchange daily from August 11 through August 14 between 10:30 a.m. and noon. Additional right-lane closures are scheduled nightly along SR 280 South Cobb Drive to SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive during this period.

For I-20 westbound, a single right-lane closure is planned from Anderson Avenue underpass to Riverside Parkway each night from August 11 through August 15. On eastbound I-20, continuous left-lane closures are set for SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive to Linkwood Road overpass from Friday, August 8 through Monday, August 11 (9 p.m.–6 a.m.), with additional double left-lane closures during overnight hours.

Other impacted areas include alternating lane closures near Riverside Parkway to the I-285 Interchange on both directions of I-20 throughout these dates, as well as single lane restrictions on SR 70/Fulton Industrial Boulevard southbound (Wendell Drive to Shirley Drive) and SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive northbound (Old Gordon Road to Adamsville Drive), nightly from August 11 through August 15.

Motorists are advised by Georgia DOT: “Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.
