Traffic on I-85 and SR 42/North Druid Hills Road in the Atlanta area will be affected by several lane closures and detours from August 15 through August 25, 2025. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced a series of scheduled traffic impacts as part of ongoing work at the interchange.

From Friday, August 15 at 9 p.m. to Monday, August 18 at 5 a.m., two right lanes on SR 42/North Druid Hills Road westbound between Buford Highway and I-85 will be closed. Additionally, motorists traveling eastbound or westbound on SR 42/North Druid Hills Road to I-85 southbound are advised to use Buford Highway as an alternate route.

Overnight closures are also planned for Friday, August 15, starting at 8 p.m. through Saturday, August 16 at 6 a.m. Various lanes on both directions of SR 42/North Druid Hills Road from Buford Highway to Briarcliff Road will be affected. One right lane on I-85 southbound from Clairmont Road to Lenox Road will close until Saturday afternoon.

The northbound off-ramp from I-85 to SR 42/North Druid Hills Road westbound will be closed during this period. Motorists should use the I-85 northbound Frontage Road (Exit 89 B) and the I-85 southbound Frontage Road as detour routes.

From Monday, August 18 through Friday, August 22, nightly lane closures will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. on SR 42/North Druid Hills Road in both directions between Buford Highway and Briarcliff Road. Additional detours will direct drivers using North Druid Hills Road to access the I-85 northbound Frontage Road via Clairmont Road and other connecting roads.

On Friday, August 22 beginning at 9 p.m., two left lanes on SR 42/North Druid Hills Road eastbound from the I-85 southbound off-ramp to the northbound off-ramp will close until Saturday morning.

Motorists are advised by GDOT: “Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.”

Further project details can be found at the official project website where updates about construction phases and additional advisories are posted regularly.
