The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced lane closures on Interstate 85 this weekend for a concrete slab rehabilitation project. The work will take place over a five-mile stretch between State Route 139/Riverdale Road and State Route 3/Metropolitan Parkway in Clayton and Fulton Counties.
The closures, weather permitting, will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, June 6, and continue until 7 a.m. Saturday. The project aims to repair and extend the life of the concrete materials on the roadway.
This $7.1 million project is expected to be completed by early 2026. Motorists are advised to expect delays and exercise caution while traveling through the work zone during project hours. For real-time updates on traffic conditions, travelers can call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
“Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways,” stated GDOT officials. “We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs. And we help local governments maintain their roads.”
The GDOT emphasizes its commitment to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility with nearly 4,000 employees dedicated to these goals.
