Traffic on I-95 North at the Ogeechee River Bridge, located at the Bryan/Chatham County line, will be shifted east beginning Friday, August 22. The change is part of a bridge maintenance project managed by L. C. Whitford Co., Inc.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), all three lanes will be shifted to the outside shoulder as part of maintenance staging plans. GDOT warns that while traffic will continue during this work, drivers should expect significant delays on August 20 and 21 due to striping modifications needed for the shift. On the night of August 21, a double lane closure is planned to implement the new traffic pattern. Speed limits in the area will be reduced to 60 mph during this period.
The traffic shift will reduce northbound lanes to two overnight on August 22 and through the weekend until Monday, August 25 while crews complete necessary bridge maintenance. All work is expected to finish by August 27 when normal lane usage resumes.
“Motorists are reminded that this is a WORK ZONE and are advised to obey reduced speed limits and exercise extreme caution travelling through this area. Message signs, barrels and/or cones will be utilized to alert the public of the upcoming changes. Drivers should be aware that personnel and equipment will be operating in close proximity to travel lanes,” GDOT stated.
