Beginning August 10, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will reopen the inside travel lanes on I-475 in Bibb County, both northbound and southbound. The lanes had been closed for a year to allow construction of a new overpass bridge for Tucker Road. The affected area is between Exit 5 (Thomaston Rd) and Exit 9 (Zebulon Rd).
Work is scheduled to start around 9:00 p.m. Sunday night and continue overnight, weather permitting. Tasks include moving temporary concrete barriers to the inside shoulders, removing existing lane striping, and restriping the inside travel lanes.
Drivers can expect delays on Tucker Road (CR 742) over I-475/SR 408 and Rocky Creek due to ongoing bridge and approach construction spanning nearly half a mile. Completion of this project is expected in early 2027. Future traffic interruptions along I-475 related to this project will be managed through nightly lane closures as needed.
The Georgia DOT advises that dates may change because of weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to expect delays, use caution, and reduce speed while traveling through work zones. For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, travelers can call 511, visit https://511ga.org/, or download the Georgia 511 app.
